What do you do on a day-to-day basis?
Analyse investment opportunities in equities in emerging markets
What skills are needed to be successful in your current role?
Numeracy (NOT mathematics), curiosity, the ability to think tangentially, a degree of cynicism. Though these are attributes rather than skills
How good is your work-life balance?
Reasonable. I work hard to make sure I have a good balance, but recognise I am very fortunate to have the job I do, and that it is demanding
What academic/professional qualifications do you have?
Bachelors and Masters degree
What did you want to do when you were a child and what changed?
I always liked writing. Nothing changed – i got into my current role via journalism
If you could study a different degree or work in a different industry, what would it be?
I really like what I do

The flexibility to set my own working agenda and work on the problems that I think will be most rewarding
What would you change about your daily work routine if you could?
Location. I HATE working in the city

Yes, though my wife and children see my very immature side more frequently

Tougher competitive environment as active managers lose out to quant
